Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal is released today and you can download it from Ubuntu official site. Alternative download options are also available in the Official Site. This guide is to do basic things after installing Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.
The very first step is that you need to update your repository and update all packages / softwares in Ubuntu 12.10. Issue the below commands in the terminal or use Software Updater(GUI tool) to update and upgrade it.
To Update Ubuntu 12.10 Repository
sudo apt-get update
After updating your repository, you can upgrade all your software / packages in Ubuntu 12.10 using the below command. Or you can do it later.
sudo apt-get upgrade
Once the above command is executed, your Ubuntu 12.10 Softwares will be up to date.
Next step is to Install proprietary driver in Ubuntu 12.10.

To install VLC in Ubuntu 12.10, run the following command in the terminal.
sudo apt-get install vlc
Browser’s in Ubuntu 12.10
Mozilla Firefox is a Open Source web browser which is a default browser in Ubuntu 12.10. You can easily upgrade it to the latest version as I said earlier. If you have not yet updated your system packages / softwares, below command will help you to update your Firefox to the latest version 16.0.1.
sudo apt-get install firefox

To install the latest GIMP 2.8.2 in Ubuntu 12.10, issue the following command in the terminal.

Extract RAR files in Ubuntu 12.10
To extract rar files in Ubuntu, you need to install unrar package. To install unrar, use the below command.
sudo apt-get install unrar
Block USB device from Normal User
