Cairo Dock 3.1.1 has recently been released with new features and bug fixes. Cairo Dock is a Good alternative to Unity, Gnome-Shell, Xfce-panel, KDE-panel or you can also use Cairo Dock along with it. Its a Desktop Interface, which can be customized easily. You can install the Cairo Dock 3.1.1 using PPA.

In this PPA Cairo Dock 3.1.1 is available for Ubuntu 13.04 Raring, 12.10 Quantal, 12.04 Precise, 11.10 Oneiric, 11.04 Natty, 10.10 Maverick, 10.04 Lucid, 8.04 Hardy.
To add PPA in Ubuntu
Use the below command in the terminal and issue the password for the user, when prompted.
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa

After adding the PPA to your repository, Update it.
sudo apt-get update
To Install Cairo Dock in Ubuntu
Once the update is finished, you can install it by using the following command in the terminal.
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plug-ins
That’s it now you can use the Cairo Dock along with Unity. Go to Dash, type cairo and select the Cairo Dock Application from the result. Check the Screen Shot.
Or you can use Cairo Dock alone by logging out and select session Cairo Dock Gnome, and log in.
